Divergent views on net neutrality emerge among US Chamber, Comcast, and tech organisations

Dec, 20, 2023 Hi-network.com

The US Chamber of Commerce and Comcast Corp expressed their opposition to the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) proposal to reinstate net neutrality rules, which were repealed during the Trump administration.

The FCC, in November, voted to advance a proposal that would bring back regulatory oversight over broadband internet. The Chamber criticised the plan as 'unlawful and unwise,' claiming it would negatively impact investment, innovation, and underserved consumers. Comcast argued against a 'sweeping government takeover,' stating that there is no broadband market failure justifying such measures. In contrast, major tech firms supported the FCC's plan. The rules in question, adopted in 2015 under President Barack Obama, were reversed in 2017 during Trump's presidency, allowing internet service providers more flexibility in managing online traffic.
