Uber will stop operating in Colombia after 31 of January. Uber announced its decision after a judge ruled the ride-hailing company violated Colombian competition laws. The dispute started in 2016, when the taxi association Cotech filed a claim against Uber before the national competition authority Superintendence of Industry and Commerce (SIC). In December 2019, the SIC ordered Uber's ride-hailing services to cease immediately. The order applied to Uber, UberX and Uber Van. Uber rejected the ruling and appealed it. In January, the decision against Uber was confirmed by a judge. Other Uber services, such as the food-delivery service Uber Eats, were not prohibited by the ruling. Uber has over 88 thousand drivers working through its platform in the country.
