A joint submission advocating for the meaningful integration of the protection of children from online risks and harms into the Global Digital Compact, bringing together the expertise and voices of 43 child rights organisations and partners, was released. The Global Digital Compact, to be agreed at the Summit of the Future in September 2024, will outline 'common principles for an open, free and secure digital future for all'.

To ensure that the digital world is safe for children, this joint submission outlines key principles and commitments that key actors should follow, including

  • The Global Digital Compact must put the implementation of children's rights online at the forefront of all its components, together with children's digital safety.
  • The Global Digital Compact should unite and lead the world in reversing the wave of online sexual abuse of children by leveraging the children's rights framework online and applying it to frontier issues and new technologies.
