India's Kerala High Court recently refused to strike down an observation in its 2022 Right to be Forgotten judgment that suggested Google could use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to identify and remove private information from court documents and judgments. The court stated that Google could not claim its status as a mere content-blind intermediary while escaping all liability where privacy rights are concerned.
The Court delivered its judgment on the right to be forgotten on 22 December 2002. The judgment dealt with the way in which the right to be forgotten applies to the publication of court judgments and court proceedings in the absence of specific legislation.
