At a recently held meeting of the BRICS industry ministers, China's Minister of Industry and Information Technology announced that China is planning on establishing a BRICS innovation base in order to secure collaboration in the area of digital cooperation, namely, artificial intelligence (AI), 5G and the digital economy. Among other things, the objective of the innovation base would also be to promote sustainable economic and social development, in particular, in light of the ongoing global pandemic.
