Sweden contributes US$480,000 to UNCTAD's work on e-commerce

To improve the capacity of developing countries to play an active role in the digital economy amid the COVID-19 crisis, the government of Sweden has donated USD$480,000 to support the UN Conference on Trade and Development's (UNCTAD) work on e-commerce and the digital economy. The fund will contribute to ameliorating UNCTAD's ability to support women digital entrepreneurs through the eTrade for Women initiative, design new courses to raise awareness on e-commerce, and enhance the measurement of the digital economy. The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the need to enhance developing countries' capacity to participate in the digital economy, not least through stronger involvement of women digital entrepreneurs as producers and traders,' noted Sweden's ambassador to the World Trade Organization Mikael Anz
