Social media restricted in Mali amid protests against president

Jul, 13, 2023 Hi-network.com

According to a report, and network data shared by the Internet monitoring NGO Netblocks, Mali has since Friday 10 July 2020 partially blocked  social media and messaging services in the country. This follows a series of demonstrations which reached a crescendo last week with demonstrators seeking political reforms, and particularly calling for the resignation of President Ibrahim Boubacar Ke?ta. Real-time data shows that websites and services such as Twitter, Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp are not accessible on the Orange Telecom network. The report further showed that the initial restrictions have been tightened following the dissolution of the constitutional court in Mali with social media services now restricted also on the network of the national telco Malitel.
