King Salman of Saudi Arabia has issued a royal order directing the creation of a Saudi Commission for Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI), to be chaired by the country's Deputy Premier and led by a Board of Directors appointed by the Prime Minister. A National Centre for AI and a National Data Management Office will also be created and linked with the Commission for Data and AI. According to Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Al-Sawaha, the new bodies come to support Saudi Arabia's efforts toward innovation and digital transformation, and they are a reflection of the country's determination to develop its digital capabilities and build a future based on AI and innovation.
