NEC Corporation, a Japanese multinational information technology company signed a partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) on the exchange of expertise in biometrics technology. Amongst other things, the partnership entails sharing of knowledge on digital identity and WFP's beneficiary services management platform which could help improve and facilitate the work of the WFP and other concerned humanitarian actors, namely, in terms of delivery of food assistance and cash transfer. The collaboration contributes to the realisation of SDG 2 -'zero hunger' that aims to end all forms of hunger by 2030.
The cooperation was announced at the seventh edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) held on 28 -30 August.
