The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) has developed a fully automatic robot that can carry out throat swabs for the Coronavirus. It is scheduled to be deployed for COVID-19 testing by late June. The AI-powered robot uses cameras to locate the right part of the throat, and is programmed to swab it gently. The fully automated and robotised swabbing can reduce the risk of exposure to the Coronavirus of healthcare workers. Lifeline Robotics A/S, a Danish company that partnered with the University to develop the prototype, aims to release the robot onto the market in fall.
