Researchers at the University of Missouri have developed a visual cloud computing architecture to improve data transmission during disasters. The architecture would allow the large amounts of visual data generated during disasters to be processed more efficiently and presented more rapidly to response teams and authorities. A framework for disaster incident data computation was created to link the system to mobile devices in a mobile cloud. Algorithms would then help determine what information needs to be processed by the cloud and what information can be processed on local devices (laptops, smartphones, etc.). This allows data to be processed over multiple devices (avoiding bottlenecks) and helps respondents receive the information faster. More detailshere and here.
