Astudy conducted by the Pew Research Centre shows that, 'despite concerns about cyberattacks, outages, and privacy violations, most experts believe that the Internet of Things (IoT) will continue to expand [...], tying machines to machines and linking people to valuable resources, services, and opportunities'. The study, conducted among technologists, scholars, practitioners, strategic thinkers and other leaders connected to the IoT world, outlined several major themes on the future of the IoT, among which: the IoT will be accepted, despite dangers, because most people believe the worst-case scenario will never happen to them; more people will be connected, and more will withdraw or refuse o participate in the IoT world; human ingenuity and risk-mitigation strategies all make the IoT safer; lack of trust, safety, and privacy issues may move those with fears to withdraw; and security and privacy issues will be magnified by the rapid rise of the IoT.
