NBTC hosts International Symposium on Digital Inclusion

The International Symposium on Digital Inclusion in Thailand, hosted by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) took place on 2 and 3 November.

The main goals of the Symposium revolved around leveraging diverse digital technologies to promote the rights and equality of individuals with disabilities. The event signified the importance of using Assistive Technology to aid persons with disabilities to reach their life goals and aspirations to a fuller degree.

The NBTC reaffirmed its position regarding the support and commitment to ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities, with special regard to enhancing the capacities of the Thai telecommunications network. Those enhancements include enabling broadcasting and television services to accommodate persons with disabilities by providing Sign Language (SL), Audio Description (AD), Closed Captions (CC). The event emphasised the importance of fostering partnerships among various international, private, governmental, multinational, and civil society stakeholders to attain these objectives.

Distinguished speakers at the symposium included Mr. Monthian Buntanm, a Senator from the Royal Thai Government, Ms. Saowalak Thonguay, a representative from the UN's Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, delegates from the UK's Office of Communications (Ofcom), and Japanese officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC).
