The National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) has entered into an agreement with IBM to grant UK researchers cloud access to IBM Quantum's Premium Plan. The NQCC, which is jointly funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), is focused on enabling proof-of-concept projects, feasibility studies, and discovery-driven scientific endeavours. IBM Quantum provides access to high-capacity quantum processors with over 100 qubits, which have the capacity to tackle problems that are beyond the reach of classical computing systems, while the NQCC complements the Hartree National Centre for Digital Innovation program, which concentrates on AI, data science, high-performance computing, and quantum computing for the benefit of UK industry and the public sector. These initiatives are geared towards preparing the UK to harness the advantages of quantum computing and promoting innovation in diverse sectors.
This partnership is in line with the UK's National Quantum Strategy and its commitment to invest
