Meta partners with US universities to expand VR education in the metaverse

Sep, 12, 2023 Hi-network.com

Meta is collaborating with 15 U.S. universities to promote its metaverse vision through virtual reality (VR) classes and exploring immersive technologies like VR and AR for education. This initiative aims to expand learning opportunities and promote VR adoption in education.

Partner universities, including Stanford University and Morehouse College, offer VR courses focused on soft skills and real-life simulations. Still, some are exploring applications in nursing and surgery. Meta aims to expand educational apps and integrate VR into various subjects, citing studies that showed that VR learners are more engaged and confident in applying what they've learned.

Meta also targets gaming communities to engage the next generation of consumers in its metaverse vision. By giving Roblox Developer Conference attendees free Quest Pro units, Meta aims to tap into younger audiences already familiar with virtual worlds.

As part of this strategy, Meta is working on similar educational initiatives with European universities and plans to improve educational content accessibility in the Quest store.

Why does it matter?

Meta's strategy underscores the company's commitment to its metaverse vision, where virtual and augmented reality play a central role in daily life. Through its active promotion of VR in both educational and gaming contexts, Meta is not only preparing the groundwork for the forthcoming wave of consumers and developers but also positioning itself as a pioneering force in the realm of VR and AR applications.
