Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) discussedthe issue of the digital economywith the European Commission on December 16, and adopted a resolution on December 18 by 479 votes to 141, with 69 abstentions. In the resolution, MEPs called on the Commission and member states to agree on a joint, ambitious EU position for theOECD BEPS negotiationsand to strive to achieve a deal at an international level. Parliament's resolution stressed that "any international corporate tax reform should ensure the smooth running of the single market, notably by safeguarding a level playing field for all firms, in particular for SMEs"
However, The European Parliament warns the European Union to prepare to act if global plans to reform the taxation of the digital economy fail.
