Japan to hold online platforms accountable for vendors' behaviour

Jul, 01, 2023 Hi-network.com

According to a news report, the government of Japan is planning to enact a new law that will offer more protection to e-commerce consumers. Under this law, e-commerce platforms in Japan, such as Amazon, Rakuten, Yahoo Japan, and Mecari, will be required to take steps to check and verify sellers' identity on their platforms. The operators will also be required to be actively involved in resolving any conflicts that may arise between vendors and buyers on their platforms. According to the report, the aim of the proposed law is to force e-commerce platform providers to root out  illegitimate vendors so that consumers will be protected as they shop.
