May, 28, 2023 Hi-network.com

Four new infrastructure projects launched by the ministry of information and communications technology that are aimed at boosting the country's digital economy have been revealed by Iran's president.

The four projects are a data centre in Tehran, the National Information Network's infrastructural project in the provinces of East Azarbaijan, Tehran, Khorasan Razavi and Fars, a support plan for digital businesses damaged by the coronavirus, and "Every Iranian, an Internet TV" a free video on demand (VOD) service.

Iran's Information and Communications Technology Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi stated that these projects would provide a boost to the digital economy, which has the potential to replace the current oil-dependent economy. The minister credited the creativity of the youthful workforce for the growth of the digital economy which currently accounts for 6.5 percent of GDP with significant growth potential to the global average of 15.5 percent.

The minister highlighted that National Information Network's datacentre upon launch will have created 407 new capacity racks and increase the national network data by 25%. The National Information Network private cloud infrastructure project will be established as a key pillar in the country's critical infrastructure. Ten other information technology projects are in the works and will be revealed soon.
