The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has released a report titled 'Towards decent work for young refugees and host communities in the digital platform economy in Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Egypt' that tackles the challenges and opportunities faced by refugees in terms of job creation in the gig economy. It specifically addresses the uneven availability of ICT infrastructure and connectivity and acknowledges that the digital sector in Africa can create only a limited amount of jobs which will not meet the employment needs of the market. The report also shares the challenges experienced by the youth and refugees on the ground such as low levels of digital literacy, restricted movements and inadequate living conditions (e.g. refugee camp) that prevent refugees from starting their own businesses.
