The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has ruled that Google infringed on five audio technology patents held by the speaker manufacturer Sonos and is not allowed to import products that violate Sonos's intellectual property into the United States.
Sonos has invented the connected speaker category for streaming music and claims that Google has used the opportunity when discussing Google Play Music support to copy Sonos' features for the Google Home speaker launched in 2016.
After this ITC ruling, Google is now removing patent-infringing features from its Nest Audio, Chromecast, and Pixel line by software downgrades.
