Ms. Antigone Davis, Head of Safety, Facebook shared that the company is testing various technical options to spot paedophiles attempting to contact children on the platform, before "harm was done". Facebook is developing ways to scan for suspicious behaviour rather than taking down content and tracking comments on photographs is one such option to crackdown on grooming she suggested.
She added,"When you find content, the problem with that is the harm has already been done.Ultimately you want to prevent that content from being shared in the first place, or from being created. So the way we are thinking about it is, how can we stop these connections?"
However, child protection organisations have raised concern that the new scanning process may not be adequate to undo the damage that encryption poses to child safety online.
