According a news report, Ethiopian authorities have partially restored Internet service, with foreign missions and embassies now connected after the government enforced an Internet shutdown in the country which has lasted a whole week. The Internet ban was implemented after protests erupted in and around Addis Ababa following the killing of the musician and activist, Hachalu Hundessa, from the Oromo ethnic group by unidentified gunmen. Giving update on the development, Ethiopian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Dina Mufti in a news briefing stated that the Internet restriction was a national security issue and promised that full restoration will be implemented once things normalise in the country. Whilst  Mufti admitted that the shutdown would have an impact on businesses, he stated that the government had to implement it in the national Interest. He also added that the action had no relation at all to curbing freedom of expression nor freedom of the press.
