According to a report, the parliament of Ethiopia has approved a draft law aimed at enabling foreign companies to invest in its telecommunications industry. The new legislation establishes an independent communications regulator, accountable to the prime minister, that will be responsible for promoting competition and ensure fairness among players.
The Minister for Innovation and Technology of Ethiopia, Getahun Mekuria, tweeted that lawmakers 'approved into law the Ethiopian Communication Regulatory Proclamation. This is a huge step in reforming the telecom sector.'
