El Salvador embraces Wi-Fi 6E in 6GHz Band

Jul, 12, 2023 Hi-network.com

In a significant move aligning with the global trend, El Salvador's telecommunications regulatory agency, SIGET (Superintendencia General de Electricidad y Telecomunicaciones), has introduced a new resolution to unleash the potential of WiFi 6E networks by freeing up the entire 6GHz band (5.925 to 7.125 MHz). This resolution not only provides a significant boost for Wi-Fi adoption in the country but also establishes operational limits by restricting usage to indoor environments while prohibiting implementation in vehicles such as cars, trains, ships, and aircraft.

This move by SIGET recognises the potential of the 6GHz band for expanding Wi-Fi capabilities. By freeing up the entire band, El Salvador is enabling the deployment of Wi-Fi 6E networks, which offer faster speeds, lower latency, and higher device capacity compared to previous Wi-Fi generations.

Meanwhile, Honduras's regulator, Conatel, may allocate only a limited portion of the 6GHz band (5925MHz to 6425MHz) for Wi-Fi use, potentially impacting Wi-Fi 6E network deployment.
