A court of appeals ruled that Uber and Lyft might classify their drivers as employees instead of independent contractors in California. The ruling upheld a decision from a lower court that found that both ride-hailing companies were violating state labor law. They have 30 days to reclassify their drivers. In the meantime, the companies can appeal to the California Supreme Court.
