Benin and Ghana have ratified a free-roaming agreement

Apr, 06, 2024 Hi-network.com

Benin and Ghana have ratified an agreement to implement free-roaming, effective from 1 July 2024. The agreement was established through a memorandum of understanding between Benin's ARCEP and Ghana's NCA. The primary goal of the agreement is to reduce roaming charges for citizens travelling between the two countries, aligning with ECOWAS regulations on roaming. This initiative aims to foster regional integration and alleviate travellers' financial burdens. It particularly supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by enhancing communication accessibility and stimulating trade.

By abolishing roaming surcharges and harmonizing tariff regulations, the agreement aims to overcome these obstacles and promote economic activities. The adoption of free-roaming between Benin and Ghana reflects broader regional efforts to facilitate communication and integration among West African nations. This includes bilateral discussions between Ghana and C?te d'Ivoire in June 2023, as well as an agreement between Benin and Togo in October 2023.
