Verizon and Comcast, two major Internet service providers in the USA, are asking the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to make sure that individual states are not able to adopt their own net neutrality regulations. In aletter sent to the FCC in early November, Comcast called for 'a clear, affirmative ruling that expressly confirms the primacy of federal law with respect to BIAS [broadband interstate access service] as an interstate information service, and that preempts state and local efforts to regulate BIAS either directly or indirectly'. A month earlier, Verizon called for similar measures. These calls come in the framework of an expected decision of the FCC with regard to the 2015 net neutrality rules, which the Commission might overturn.
