Uber suspended in Egypt

Mar, 20, 2023 Hi-network.com
Acourt in Egypt has suspended the licences of Uber and competitor Careem, in a case filed last year by 42 taxi drivers in the country. In their case, the drivers argued that Uber and Careem were illegally using private cars as taxis, while being registered as a call centre and an Internet company, respectively. According to a lawyer cited by Reuters, the court decision involves suspending the licences of the two companies, banning their applications, and suspending their use of private cars. The decision is reported to be effective immediately, and the ride-hailing services should remain suspended pending a final court ruling. Uber indicated it would appeal the decision.
