Uber has recognised the GMB labour union to represent drivers in the UK. This is the first time that Uber recognises drivers to be represented by a union. The GMB will support drivers with their labour rights, including when they lose access to the Uber app. The GMB national officer said that 'this groundbreaking deal between GMB and Uber could be the first step to a fairer working life for millions of people. History has been made. This agreement shows gig economy companies don't have to be a wild west on the untamed frontier of employment rights'. The Union will not represent delivery riders for the Uber Eats food service.
