Twitter's policy no longer contains specific protections for transgender individuals

After announcing the introduction of 'visibility filtering' in its Hateful Conduct policy, it has emerged that Twitter also changed its approach to content targeting transgender people. According to an archived version of the policy, the company removed specific protections for transgender individuals earlier this month.

The policy previously prohibited the 'misgendering and deadnaming of transgender individuals', but this language is no longer written. Twitter has also removed a line about certain groups of people who are often subject to disproportionate online abuse, including women, people of colour, LGBTQ+ individuals, and marginalised communities.

LGBTQ advocacy group GLAAD criticised the change, stating that it makes Twitter even more unsafe for users and advertisers. Twitter has not commented on the change, but it has faced criticism over its recent approach to hateful conduct and its CEO Elon Musk, who has made controversial statements about transgender people in the past.
