Russian court rules facial recognition technology does not violate privacy rights

Russian privacy activist Alena Popova had sued Moscow city in an effort to stop the city's use of facial recognition technology (FTR) in the City Video Surveillance System. The software also allows the mass collection of biometric data which can be monitored by authorities without any suspicion or warrant. The court ruled that such surveillance does not violate privacy rights of citizens.
