Privacy activist Max Schrems argues Irish DPC mismanaged Facebook privacy investigation

May, 25, 2023 Hi-network.com

According to Politico, Max Schrems, the Austrian privacy activist, has sent an open letter to EU institutions to complain about "highly disturbing" actions taken by the Irish data protection authority (DPC) in the course of an investigation into possible legal breaches by Facebook. In the letter, Schrems and its privacy group NOYB, explain that the cooperation mechanism under Chapter 7 of the GDPR becomes fundamentally dysfunctional if involved Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) do not cooperate in a swift and efficient manner. At the current speed, the investigation will easily take more than ten years until all appeals are decided and a final decision is reached.
