Malaysia's Education Ministry has unveiled a Digital Education Policy to equip all students with essential digital skills. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek emphasized the policy's focus on integrating digital technology into the learning ecosystem to create a digitally literate generation.

From 2023 to 2030, the initiative emphasizes core elements such as developing digitally competent educators, visionary digital leadership, infrastructure improvement, digital education content, and strategic partnerships. The policy extends beyond schools, encompassing higher education institutions, parents, teachers, and the wider community, to nurture a digitally fluent generation in the face of technological advancements.

Why does it matter?

Recently, Malaysia has been actively working to enhance the digital literacy skills of its population. At the beginning of the month, the country launched a Digital Literacy Empowerment Program for Persons with Disabilities (PwD), designed to facilitate their connection with government agencies and promote their inclusion in government initiatives. In addition, a newly established strategic collaboration between Malaysia and Google aims to further these efforts, aiming to provide learning pathways to upskill 300,000 Malaysians by 2026.
