Japan confirmed it will promote free cross-border data flow this weekend at the Group of Seven (G7) Digital and Tech Ministers' Meeting. Namely, Japan aims to push its 2019 "Data Free Flow with Trust" (DFFT) concept and launch an institutional framework to foster it. With the new institutional framework, Japan plans to start projects that businesses can reference, such as the 'building of a database of different countries' data-related regulations.'
The meeting is also expected to touch upon the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools, such as ChatGPT, to which Japan stressed the need to implement international rules.
