Japan has launched a project aimed at creating an Artificial Intelligence Bridging Cloud computer (AIBC) by the end of 2017, according toBBC. The country hopes that the AIBC will become the world's fastest supercomputer, running at a speed of 130 petaflops (as compared to the 93 petaflops of China's Sunway TaihuLight, the fastest computer currently). The machine is to be used in carrying out research by analysing massive datasets. The first applications could be in medical research or in software for controlling AI systems such as driverless cars and robots.
