Insights into the way universities responded to the global pandemic

The resilience and creativity of universities was on show in equal measures as part of the 2022 Cisco higher education study tour. The tour was attended by more than a dozen university executives from around Australia with visits to RMIT, La Trobe, Adelaide and Flinders University.

The tour provided some fascinating insights into the way that the higher education has responded to the global pandemic, including:

  • Focus on digital innovation to improve how they teach and serve industry
  • Enabling of hybrid work and learning at scale
  • Move to a more resilient digital campus security posture
  • Leadership they are showing in helping Australia reach Net Zero faster
  • Critical role universities are playing in anchoring and activating Precincts and Regions

Beyond the university visits the study tour also immersed itself in two of Australia's most interesting economic Precincts; Lot Fourteen in Adelaide and the more established and industrial Tonsley Innovation Precinct where delegates got a chance to visit the Line Zero: Factory of the Future pilot facility run in partnership with BAE Systems.

Many of the universities that participated in the tour or hosted visits are members of the National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN). This collective is starting to gather real momentum and many of the network's projects and insights were on show in the three-day tour.
