India has reduced the import duty on various components used in mobile phone manufacturing. This includes battery covers, main camera lenses, back covers, plastic and metal mechanical items, GSM antennas, and others. The import duty has been reduced from 15% to 10%. In addition, the import duty for manufacturing these goods within the country has been completely eliminated.
The cut in import duties has the potential to decrease the cost of importing essential raw materials and components for manufacturing. This in turn would significantly lower overall production costs and enhance manufacturers' competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
This step is a part of the government's ongoing efforts to make India an appealing destination for tech companies to expand their manufacturing operations in the country. Such initiatives are thus directed towards enabling the country to realize its broader vision of becoming a global hub for high-tech and electronic manufacturing.
