Huawei says Romania and Poland bans violate EU law

Nov, 03, 2023 Hi-network.com

Huawei has objected to Romania and Poland's intention to exclude the Chinese telecom provider from their 5G networks on the grounds that their proposals breach EU guidelines. Huawei wrote to the EU competition commissioner citing the moves were "contrary to the fundamental principles of the EU" and "are predicated on several violations of EU law," and indicated it may pursue a legal remedy*. Bucharest and Warsaw both signed agreements with the US to exclude Huawei and ZTE from their national 5G networks and both countries have drafted legislation that supports this. Poland's draft cybersecurity legislation published on September 8th extends legislation from January founded on a common EU approach and allows the government to divide possible 5G suppliers into four distinct groups evaluating their threats to economic, security or other interests.
