The GSMA published its Mobile Economy 2021 report which outlines the recent insights on the state of the mobile industry worldwide. The report comprises a range of technology, socio-economic and financial datasets, including forecasts out to 2025. The report found that 1.8 billion 5G connections will be developed by 2025 where Asia and the US will be leading the way. It also highlights that while 49% of the population are currently connected, 41% are still within the footprint of mobile broadband but do not use it. The report argues that the COVID-19 crisis has underscored the importance of connectivity to the well-being of societies. In this vein, to strengthen the economy and build an inclusive society, governments have to promote mobile technology and reassess the business and regulatory environment for mobile services in order to accelerate investment and innovation.
