A French court of appeals has confirmed that Google must negotiate with French publishers about payments for their news content, confirming the decision of the French Competition Authority from 9 April 2020. The French Competition Authority has argued that Google must lead talks with French publishers under the new EU copyright rules, which include the right of news publishers to demand payments when search engines display snippets of their stories.
