A proposed industry specification developed by Apple and Google aims to reduce the safety risks brought on by AirTags and other Bluetooth-enabled tracking gadgets. The new standard mandates that unauthorized tracking detection and alerts be implemented on both Android and iOS devices.
In order to help minimize the misuse of location trackers that put users at risk for stalking, harassment, and theft, the proposed specification provides a number of best practices for the designers of Bluetooth tracking devices. The unwanted tracking detection, according to the document, should detect and alert individuals when a tracker that has been separated from its owner is travelling with them and also give directions on how to locate and disable the device.
Samsung, Pebblebee, Tile, Chipolo, Eufy Security, and other manufacturers of comparable tracking devices have already endorsed the proposed standard.
