Facebook's Oversight board demands more transparency

Oct, 21, 2023 Hi-network.com

The Facebook Oversight Board has published its first quarterly transparency report, covering the time period from 22 October 2020 to 30 June 2021. According to the report, 524,000 cases were referred to the Oversight board in that time frame, out of which the Oversight board proceeded with 17 cases.

The Oversight board noted that Facebook did not answer all of its questions related to their inquiries, including not being transparent with Facebook's 'cross-check' system, an internal program the social media network says is used to double-check enforcement actions against certain high profile users. The Oversight board specifically mentioned that when Facebook referred the case related to former US President Trump to the Board, it did not mention the cross-check system.

'Facebook needs to commit to greater transparency and to treat users fairly,' the Oversight board tweeted.
