The telecoms regulator in Egypt will double the level of fines for operators that offer poor service to customers. Simultaneously the regulator has extended the hours of operation for its complaints service. The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority's executive president Hossam El-Gamal stated the regulator aims to more efficiently discover the root causes of complaints, link them to the NTRA;s regulatory and operational rules and respond to them effectively. The NTRA recorded poor performance while measuring mobile network service quality in the first quarter of 2021. The regulator's decision takes effect in the second half of 202 and the regulator will also monitor the time taken to resolve user complaints from submission to the operator, and will impose fines for excessive delays.
