In the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Girls in information and communication technology (ICT) on 22 April, the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and its partners launched a comprehensive 'Learning Girls in ICT Initiative' to bridge the continental digital divide. Such initiative aims at revitalising and upscaling the African Information Society Initiative (AISI) which was initiated in 1996 as a continental comprehensive framework on ICT-for Development (ICT4D) and laying the foundation of the information society in Africa. 'Digital skills offer our girls the power to change the world. Digitalization offers a variety of opportunities for female empowerment and a more equal female participation in labor markets, financial markets, and entrepreneurship,' noted ECA's Technology, Climate Change and Natural Resources Division (TCND) Jean-Paul Adam.
