The Dutch government is launching 'Do your updates' campaign aimed to encourage people to update their smart devices. According to a study conducted for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate in the Netherlands, more than half of people in the Netherlands postpone or forget to install updates on their smart devices. In response, the ministry began a campaign to actively urge people to make sure their devices are updated and safe. The campaign will mainly run on websites and YouTube ads. In addition, the ministry announced that a bill is currently being drafted which recommends issuing stricter rules for smart device manufacturers. The proposal will obligate manufacturers to continue offering software and security updates for smart devices they are selling so that consumers will be able to use them safely for longer periods of time.
