A recent DDoS Trends and Analysis report released by Corero Network Security shows that thenumber of distributed denial of service attacks (DDoS) attacks continue to increase as criminals take advantage of insecure Internet of Things (IoT) devices. According to the report, which contains observations from attacks attempted against Corero customers, organisations experienced an average of 237 DDoS attack attempts per month during the third quarter of 2017, which is the equivalent to 8 DDoS attack attempts every day. The data also show a 35% increase in monthly attack attempts compared to the previous quarter, and a 91% increase in monthly attack attempts compared to the first quarter of 2017. This frequency increase is attributed to 'the growing availability of DDoS-for-hire services, and the proliferation of unsecured IoT devices'.
