Canadian courts ruled against Yahoo

Yahoo users in Quebec initiated a lawsuitagainst Yahoo! for security breaches in 2013 and 2014. Yahoo claimed that in their contract they have jurisdiction clauses which set jurisdiction of other court. Also they claimed that since these services were free of charge Yahoo users are not consumers in legal terms, hence consumers forum can not be applied. Court in Quebec dismissed these statements and confirmed that fact that service is free of charge is not relevant for qualifying user as consumers.
