Calls for investigation into ChatGPT technology by The European Consumer Organisation

Apr, 24, 2023 Hi-network.com

The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) is urging the EU and national authorities to initiate a probe into AI chatbots. Consumer protection bodies from various countries, who are members of BEUC, cite ethical and privacy concerns.

The consumer advocates claim that some AI chatbots, including ChatGPT, may be in violation of consumer protection laws due to the potential for harm caused by biased or misleading responses that can affect young and impressionable consumers and children.

Furthermore, there are concerns about the data collected by these chatbots. As AI chatbots become increasingly prevalent in everyday life, consumer protection bodies are calling for regulatory measures to ensure that they are subject to the same ethical and legal standards as other consumer products.

The call for an investigation into AI chatbots highlights the growing importance of ethical considerations in the development and deployment of AI technology. As AI continues to transform various industries, it is essential that ethical concerns are addressed to ensure that technology is used in a responsible and inclusive manner. The outcome of any investigations into AI chatbots could have significant implications for the development and use of AI technology in the future.
