The US Chamber of Commerce, through its Technology Engagement Centre and Center for Global Regulatory Cooperation, has released a set of ten policy principles for governing the use and regulation of artificial intelligence (AI). Fostering trustworthy AI is one of the key principles, with an emphasis on the need for transparency, explainability, fairness, and accountability in AI technologies. The document also outlines several recommendations for governments, which should be mindful of existing rules and regulations applicable to AI, and adopt risk-based approaches to AI governance. Policymakers are also encouraged to support investments in AI research and development, while also partnering with other stakeholders in building a workforce suited for the AI economy. Other recommended principles include promoting open and accessible government data, pursuing robust but flexible data protection regimes that enable the processing of data for AI development, and committing to cross-border data flows.
