The agreement linking Moldova to the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program was signed in Chisinau by the EU Commissioner for Transport Adina V?lean and Moldova's Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Lilia Dabija, in the presence of Prime Minister Dorin Recean of Moldova.

This agreement would make it possible for Moldovan project sponsors to submit funding requests to the EU for initiatives of shared interest in the transportation, energy, and digital sectors, enhancing the nation's connectedness with its EU neighbours. It will encourage growth, employment, and competitiveness while assisting Moldova's integration into the EU Single Market.

In the digital realm, Moldova will have the opportunity to benefit from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program's digital initiatives. The CEF Digital program aims to support projects of common interest that enhance connectivity, particularly backbone networks linking the EU with third countries, in line with the Global Gateway strategy. It also focuses on the development of safe, secure, and sustainable high-performance infrastructure, including Gigabit and fifth-generation mobile (5G) networks.

Moldovan project promoters will soon have the chance to apply for co-financing under the CEF Digital program. These funds will support projects aimed at improving the capacity, security, and resilience of digital connectivity between Moldova and its neighbouring EU countries.
